In any water treatment or industrial process, the Raw Water Tank serves as the vital buffer between the source (river, lake, or borehole) and the treatment plant. Raw water is often unpredictable, containing suspended solids, varying mineral content, and organic matter that can be abrasive or mildly corrosive. Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) tanks, also known as epoxy-coated bolted steel tanks, provide the ideal balance of high-tier protection and rapid deployment for these essential utility assets.
Fusion Bonded Epoxy is an advanced coating process where a high-performance epoxy powder is electrostatically applied to a steel substrate. Unlike traditional liquid paints that are field-applied, FBE is a "factory-controlled" process involving thermal curing to create a high-molecular-weight polymer bond.
Raw water often carries silt, sand, and debris. The fusion-bonded coating is highly ductile and impact-resistant, ensuring that the internal lining does not crack or chip when faced with the mechanical stress of turbulent inflow or abrasive solids.
In remote areas or active industrial sites, minimizing on-site risk is a priority.
The smooth, non-porous finish of the epoxy coating resists mineral scaling and biological film adhesion. This makes periodic tank clean-outs faster and more efficient, reducing the operational downtime of the entire water treatment train.
When should I choose FBE instead of Glass-Fused-to-Steel (GFS)?
For standard raw water (pH 3–11) with low-to-moderate salinity, FBE is the most cost-effective solution. However, if the raw water is highly acidic, alkaline, or extremely abrasive (such as mining slurry), our Glass-Fused-to-Steel (GFS) tanks offer superior 6.0 Mohs hardness and pH 1–14 resistance.
Are these tanks suitable for cold climates?
Yes. The FBE coating is engineered to handle thermal expansion and contraction cycles without delaminating, and the tanks can be easily integrated with external insulation jackets for freeze protection.
Can the capacity be increased later?
One of the primary benefits of the bolted design is scalability. If your water demand grows, additional rings can often be added to the tank to increase storage volume with minimal structural modification.
